Lipoprotein plays a critical role in transporting various essential nutrients in our bodies. HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein), LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein), and VLDL (Very-Low-Density Lipoprotein) are three major types that carry cholesterols and triglycerols. By carrying cholesterols, they are sometimes considered as cholesterols HDL-c, LDL-c, and VLDL-c. Wait a second, don’t be frightened by these two monsters yet. Although cholesterol and triglycerol are both notorious for their potential causing of cardiovascular diseases, they are actually considered as essential elements for mammalians as long as being kept under regular amounts.

So what is the difference among these lipoproteins-cholesterols? LDL-c and VLDL-c are BAD cholesterols which easily are trapped onto vessel walls and clog our vessels. On the contrast, HDL-c is able to pick up wondering cholesterols, glycerols, and fatty acids and transfer them to the liver.

So how do we require these good cholesterols…HDL-c? Here are some easy steps for you:
1) Exercise
2) Quit smoking… This is an important one. You will be surprised that HDL-c in your body increases 5% by only doing this [1].
3) Ingest fish, fruits, vegetables, whole wheat, olive oil, beans
4) Drink wine… Wait, it is not about party time! Ingestion of suitable quantity of alcohol does help in maintaining your HDL-c level [2]. The suggestion for drinking is 0.5-1 glass of red wine every day. However, drinking can bring other physical problems to human beings with various body types. It is strongly recommended to consult with your doctors about this.
